Elizabeth Blackwell grew up in England with plenty of money private teachers. Her family moved to New York City when Elizabeth was eleven years old. In 1847, in Geneva New York Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman to be admitted to a school of medicine. Elizabeth Blackwell was the toughest steel. She had to be to come over all the barriers which men put up to try to stop her from becoming a doctor.
