Akihito is the last remaining emperor in the world. Since the German emperor abdicated, the tsar's family were murdered, and Heliothia of Ethiopia was deposed, no other country has had an emperor. As far as German protocal is concerned, emperor Akihito with his wife Mituko is a head of state not so different from many other, but long-serving courtship of the imperial household however defer to the tenno as representative of the divine institution, or indeed as a being of the divine origin.
