Heart attacks and strokes are the great killers of our time. In the industrialised world, we've been taught they are caused by too much fatty food, smoking and stress. Scientists are convinced that neither fat consumption nor other risk factors can adequately explain the fluctuating incidence of cardiovascular disease.
