Some diseases like sickle cell anaemia and Parkinson's are very dangerous genetic diseases and have been regarded as “incurable” for many years. It is hoped that embryonic stem cells will soon be able to help in the treatment of these diseases. But since the removal of stem cells results in the death of an embryo, research with embryonic stem cells is a highly controversial issue.
