History:The Seismograph
Many natural phenomena can be calculated and predicted, but not earthquakes. Science still knows too little about the complex correlations involved. Although probability studies can be drawn up for threatened regions, neither the extent nor the time of an earthquake can be forecast with anything even approaching accuracy. Scientists are working on early warning systems. They would give conurbations at least a slight chance of minimal damage limitation.
