Geoscience:The Murray Darling Basin
The Murray Darling is one of the world's longest river systems with a network of more than 20 major rivers. It is important to local residents for agriculture and natural resources just like the Huanghe River of China. But now much of the environmental damage has been done to the basin due to a lack of understanding of how the soils, geology, water and fragile ecology were linked. It is time to think about finding ways of balancing our uses of the area with environmental needs.
