Geoscience:Continent of Ice
Antarctica is the coldest place on the earth. It's often minus 50℃ in most places, and winds can freeze exposed human skin at further 30 degrees. But lots of animals and a few plants are well adapted to the cold, and live here comfortable. In some places, microscopic creatures live inside rocks. They appear streaks of color in the rock. Antarctica is covered with a permanent sheet of ice, in some places, five kilometers thick. The scientists are trying to find out whether the glaciers are moving forward and getting bigger or whether they are retreating possibly because of global warming.
