The world around us can be a violent place. The earth shudders unpredictably. Volcanoes explode unleashing molten rock from below the earth. Furious fires ravage the landscape burning everything in their path, and torrential rain causes rivers to flood. These processes have been occurring for millions of years, and will occur for millions more. When they put human lives or property in danger we call them natural disasters.
