Bioscience:Mechanisms of Evolution
Evolution is the process that produces change in a population, in particular genetic change. The three forces acting in evolution are mutation, genetic drift and selection. Genetic drift involves the sampling of genes from one generation to the next. Mutation is the ultimate source of genetic variation. Selection is a systematic force that produces a favoring of one gene over another.
