Geoscience:South Asia: Land and Resource
South Asia is a densely populated region rich in river valleys and fertile plains, contrasting with sparsely populated mountain ranges, harsh deserts and tropical forests. This region is home to approximately one fifth of the world’s entire population. The monsoons which are so important for South Asian life are seasonal shifts in the direction of the winds. South Asian agriculture, which developed thousands of years ago, is adapted to the weather changes brought by the alternating wet and dry monsoons.
