Its shape is unique among trees， it goes by a variety of names: fan leaf， duck foot， super apricot， maidenhair or forty thaler tree. In the western world， it's known by a scientific name， thanks mainly to a poem by John Wolfgang von Goethe: Ginkgo biloba. Goethe helped the ginkgo tree to achieve a mystical status in Europe. For thousands of years， cranes and ginkgos had become symbol of peace and friendship in Japan.
