The first half of the twentieth century was an absolute disaster in human affairs. We had the First World War, the Great Depression, the Second World War, and the rise of the communist nations. And each one of these forces split the world. And they threw up walls which divided peoples and nations. It was only in the second half of the twentieth century that we slowly began to pull ourselves out of this abyss.
