Decoration:Achitecture 21: Richard Meier —— Achitecture of Light
Richard Meier takes literally Le Corbusier's definition of architecture as "the magnificent play of volumes assembled in light". His geometrical clarity of form is informed by an intimate knowledge of Renaissance masters such as Bramante and the Baroque inventions of a Borromini... He has also studied the baroque architecture of southern Germany. One thing worth mentioning is that he found inspiration for the Getty Center at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli near Rome, which was built of travertine, a beige ochre stone much used by the ancient Romans.
