Synthetic materials have liberated architecture from the constraints imposed by bricks and mortar， timber and stone. Even modern concrete is a product of chemical reactions. Modern buildings are insulated， sealed， provisioned and powered by synthetic materials. Synthetics by contrast are more resistant， besides being lighter and requiring less energy in their manufacture.
