Geoscience:Water and the Water Cycle
Water is an extraordinary and wonderful substance and it's essential to life. Most of the water on the planet Earth, about 97% of it, is in the oceans and is a salty liquid. Less than 1% of it is fresh water in rivers and lakes and underground reserves. About 2% is in solid form and held as snow and ice. A substantial amount of water is returned to the atmosphere by all the trees and other plants around the world. They play an important role in the water cycle.
