Australia has a population of approximately 20 million people, coming from over 140 different cultures. Among them, Australians speak about 100 different languages, and follow about 80 different religions. So Australia has always been a culturally diverse society. With so many people from different places all over the world, defining an Australian identity is very difficult. Immigrants to Australia brought with them their culture, ideas, and values, adding to an already diverse society.
