Red is a very special color. Red is the first color to be named by men. Red evokes more associations than any other color. The recipe for the production of red dye is a well-guarded secret in all cultural groups. It was always a laborious and costly procedure. On the islands of Lansroti in the Canaries， a natural red dye stuff is produced today in just the same way as it was in the Middle Ages.
