From the beginning of time， people have looked for materials that would enable them to add color to themselves and their environment. Charcoal， gypsum， read chalk， ores and various soils， they learn to make pigments from them and to explore the varieties of colors that resulted. In all cutural groups， colors have a role to play in ceremonial and rituals.
